There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where casino gambling is banned. Eight casinos are anchored in a generally tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime destination, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are means around this, as is true of most borders.
The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel building that highlights numerous amenities accompanying the gambling hall, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight table games.
