Cambodia Gambling Dens
January 23rd, 2023 by Martin

There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the border from next door Thailand, where casino betting is against the law. Eight casinos are established in a generally tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 17:00, and even though visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is true of most borders.

The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slots and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the common table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel compound that features numerous amenities on top of the gambling den, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 table games.
